I grew up in a small Saskatchewan village named Grand Coulee. The community consisted of one Kindergarten to grade eight school which I attended for the entirety of my Elementary schooling. The small village environment was personified in the absence of any stores or services which allowed me the freedom to socialize and explore from a very young age. I was required to commute to High School in Regina where I became a student at Luther College High School. Luther High School’s reputation of high academic expectations proved to be true. Academic collaboration and support between peers quickly became not only reoccurring, but necessary to manage the scholastic load. Gradually, I began to discover my ability to explain concepts in various ways and perspectives. As I continued to help others, I began developing a more in-depth knowledge of the content I was discussing. My verbal teaching/learning nature influenced my interest in educating. The study, work and collaboration habits which I attained from Luther, provided me with a strong academic foundation for life in the Middle Years Education program at the University of Regina.
I have always possessed a robust intrigue in sports and athletics. At a youth level, I participated in National and International soccer tournaments in Eastern/Western Canada and the USA. My passion as a player prompted my involvement in coaching. I have coached/mentored at numerous soccer camps for Regina Football (soccer) Club. After graduating from Luther College High School, I could not stay away and returned as assistant coach for the soccer team for multiple seasons. The team featured in the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) city finals in back to back seasons. The success allowed the team to attend provincials in Yorkton and Prince Albert respectively. My experiences coaching and mentoring greatly contributed to my pursuit of an Education degree. To further my involvement with adolescence, I acquired a job at Kidzone Child Care located in a local Regina elementary school. My time coaching and working has continued to gift me ample time to work with numerous adolescents of many different ages.
